With the US economic crisis, young people have limited choices after
high school and with the help of racist and misleading advertising
campaigns military recruiters prey on the legitimate needs and
aspirations of poor, working class and minority youth. The U.S.
Army
hired Leo Burnett, a multinational advertising agency, in January
2001 to develop a multimedia recruitment campaign for which they've
been paid roughly $400 MILLION to depict military life as "fun
and
adventure." Burnett's award winning campaign 'An Army of One'
uses
heavy metal music, video games and slick TV commercials to target
Generation Y youth, with special emphasis on African-Americans and
Latinos. Leo Burnett is also responsible for the 'Army of One'
recruiting displays that many people have seen at the Taste of
Chicago, Chicago Blues Festival, Chicago Air & Water Show and
other
such festivals.
